The Art Center

We are all born with the capacity to enjoy aesthetic experiences, and this natural trait can be developed and refined as we mature. The language of art can become an integral part of each person's life. Direction and study can enhance our appreciation of art; for children, art education can improve learning ability and overall quality of life. The Center staff has planned a unique, varied program for children and adults that stimulates the creative process. Lessons at the Center are a highly engaging, hand-on way to introduce children to the world of art. The young participants learn the language of art as they work with a variety of materials to create and sculpt. These experiences spark their imagination and strengthen their capacity for self expression.

Painting and Sculpting
Instructor: Dalia Kenan
Dalia devotes special attention to planning engaging, highly varied lessons for children. The artistic process is built along four inter-related content areas, and the children are encouraged throughout to stretch their imaginations and test their creative abilities. In addition to learning techniques for painting, clay and paper sculpting, ceramics, and computer art and using them as a means of personal expression, the participants also observe the use of these same techniques by some of the world's renowned artists.

Mosaics
Instructor: Haya Uliel
Mosaic works of art produce a rich array of colors and designs and give their creators the freedom to express their own ideas and styles. Old tables, stools, even frying pans - any object - can be beautifully redesigned as a mosaic. The component parts can be just as varied: pieces of jewelry, glass beads, broken objects (whose sentimental value can be preserved by making use of their remaining pieces). Participants can construct mosaic-decorated mirrors, pictures, or any three-dimensional object emerging from their creativity and imagination.

Painting in Combination with Other Art Forms
Under the guidance of the artist Shula Eshkoli, children take their first steps into the world of art. Along this fascinating and fun journey they learn the language of art and paint and sculpt using a variety of materials. The methods they employ are an excellent means of developing their imaginations, their ability for self expression, and their skill level in many other areas.

Computer Art
Instructor: Belinda Kane
This unique class gives painting and drawing an exciting new form of expression through the use of computer techniques. The computer becomes a tool for enriching your child's abilities and creativity. The program includes techniques for creating comic strips and for generating other forms of computer and conventional artwork.

Ceramics
Instructor: Einat Polon
The tranquil atmosphere of the Center's ceramics studio adds to the pleasure of artistic creation. Instruction is geared to the abilities and desires of each student (child or adult). All are encouraged to sculpt their objects freely and design them as decorative or functional items. They then use the studio's professional equipment to paint, fire, and glaze their finished works.

Painting on Wood
Instructor: Haya Uliel
Wooden objects can be decorated using a variety of painting techniques and styles. Closet doors, old furniture—anything made of wood in your home—can be beautifully rejuvenated with a painted design. This class is perfect for anyone interested in adding a special, attractive touch to any room in the house or any spot on the balcony or in the backyard.

Paper Sculpting
The classes cover all phases of paper artwork: building a foundation, working in layers, using papier paché, painting, and finishing. Participants can request special classes that focus on particular themes or techniques.

Painting and Sketching for Adults
The small-group setting for these lessons creates an ideal atmosphere of tranquility and intimacy. For two hours, participants disengage themselves from the stresses of everyday life and enjoy the pleasure of artistic creation. They learn the fundamentals of drawing, experiment with a variety of materials (such as acrylic and oil paints), and acquire techniques for combining different art forms - all under the personal guidance of professional artists.
